If this post is up, it means I'm off having the baby. Woo-hoo! Let's hear it for that whirlpool tub in the labor room.

I will tackle this in the morning when I'm more clear headed.

Praying so hard for you and your wee one. Five and a half weeks early, hun. I'm worried and yet I feel like it's going to be okay. Goodness that's an odd bout of conflicting feelings.

Love you!

Babies!

You and yours are in my thoughts. I hope everything goes without a hitch and that little baby Perkins enters the world safely.

I'd try this, but I couldn't even get past number 1.

Angels are bearing you up, dearest L. You (and P) know what to do.

(Some of my answers - in no particular order - to today's thing: RFK, Jr., b/c, Jude, c, Firefly, e, BOC, b, c, Lost Boys, a, j, he's left and gone away - hey hey hey.)

Hoping all is going swimmingly today! My love, thoughts and prayers are with you, P, and all your offspring, including the little girl on the way!

Too many answers! I'm not going to scroll back up, but I'll say the few that I can remember off the top of my head. Um, Blue Oyster Cult; I think you're awesome for being at any of those video makings. . . you've gotta let me know which one!; I'd say Jack Bauer, but that's only because he's my choice (minus the alcohol, of course); Noggin is how I spent my last summer; I adore Toto's Africa, and I'll assume you do too; and since there are two questions about middle names, I'm going to go with Jude because it's the only boy's name.

Best wishes for you today. I'll be praying that everything goes well!

oh no really!!!!!!!!!????
You're in my prayers now.

I knew you were pregnant, not that you were almost due. What a surprise.

Take care and can't wait hear about your newborn!

BTW: this quizz is incredibly difficult. but I might give it a try. Does a contestant with zero correct answers win something as well :p?

Keep us updated, girl! I'll be crossing fingers and praying for you until we hear back about you and Little Miss Perkins.

What a great quiz. Some I'm pretty confident I know, others . . . not a clue. I'll definitely give it a whirl later.

Good luck, Luisa! The only answer I knew is the SNL Blue Oyster Cult question. Great quiz! I look forward to hearing the answers :)

Wishing you ALL THE BEST for the delivery! How wonderful and exciting!!!!

Re Question 20: it has to be When Harry Met Sally, as I myself am that kind of restaurant customer and always laugh when I remember Sally ordering apple pie a la mode...

Oh my, I didn't know the baby was coming this soon--you and baby are in my prayers. We'll want pictures I'm sure--and to know all is OK.

Hugs!

On 8/5/08 , Anonymous said...

Wow, I'm reading this hours later so I'll say "hope it all went well and congratulations!"

This quiz is far beyond my knowledge and skill, but I do know that it's "I am the son and heir" -- and I'd know the reference if I had any memory at all, since grad student at BYU explained us in some intro class.

Best to the whole family.

Oh my gosh, I just left the lengthiest comment EVER, and it's gone. WHERE DID MY COMMENT GO????

On 9/5/08 , Anonymous said...

I'll speculate, but mostly your quiz makes me feel like a useless, uniformed friend.
#2 e) Al Gore
#3 Buffy the Vampire Slayer
#5 Treason
#8 styrofoam
#9 "I am the son and the heir" (Complete guess--I hate multiple choice questions. They confuse me even when I might know the answer)
#14 So you can make circles?
#16 Noggin
#17 Mark Wahlberg (just because I love him--in spite of the pants)

That's all I've got, and I'm not sure of most of these.
Melissa

On 9/5/08 , Brillig said...

Okay, fine. I'm trying this again. It won't be NEARLY as good as my first (lost) comment. Sigh. Here goes:

1. Because everything goes when you're trying to be hip, current, and funny.

2. e) Al Gore, though I know you have a thing for Alice Waters too. And probably RFK Jr. Still, I'll go with my pal Al.

3. Oh goodness. MASH? The Twilight Zone? Mr. Rogers?

4. YOU HAVE SIX BROTHERS????

5. a) Ender's Game. Okay, I have no idea. But everyone seems to love that one. Which probably means that you DON'T. Oh well.

6. Jumpin' Joe has left and gone astray, hey hey hey.

7. Akh! I know this one! But I can't remember. Sigh.

8. PowerPoints are awful, but styrofoam is filling our landfills AND full of harmful chemicals, so I'm pretty sure it's more hated.

9. Son and Heir

10. George Eliot's Middlemarch. Yup. I don't know much, but I know my Morrissey and my Eliot.

11. OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS SKIT! d) "Don't Fear the Reaper"

12. b) Africa, because the harmonies are so much fun. (Okay, that's why I like it, anyway.)

13. c?

14. Because you are SUCH A NERD! HOW did we get from Morissey to knitting?

15. a? Though I would totally love it if you used Prudence as a middle name. :-D

16. Knowing you, I would guess d and e.

17. Oh, PLEASE let it be Robert Redford! How I love RR. Sigh. I think I was born a few decades too late. Sigh again.

18. I have NO idea. This is something I really SHOULD know. I'll guess d.

19. First of all, you've been going to Chili's for 20 years? That's scary, my friend. This is a hard one, because they are all so quirky and specific that I could imagine any one of them being correct. But I will guess b.

20. Um, a? (No idea).

Now this thing better publish or so help me...

(Love you! Hope all is well with you and the massive little one!)

10) Pride and Prejudice
11) d

Another mucho long cooment . . . here's my attempt:

1. To be facetious. Being intentionally incorrect can be a fun lark for fanatics. And possibly to irritate Word, if you composed this there—it’s fun to force green squiggles under lines when the program thinks it’s smarter than you. (I think I may have revealed too much about ME . . .)
2. Al Gore
3. Firefly
4. Not a clue. I'll say "Joseph" since that's MY brother's middle name.
5. C) Treason
6. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you. (Whoo, whoo, whoo)
7. Velveeta? At least, that’s the only thing Velveeta was ever used for in my house growing up. Bait, actually, so technically not fish food.
8. My first reaction was Styrofoam because you're so environmentally conscious, but I think it’s a trick question. So even though PP presentations don't contribute to landfills, PP is my answer.
9. I don't know the song and I won't be cheating, so I'm guessing blindly: son and heir, because that one sounds cooler.
10. Victorian lit is my favorite. Therefore, I'm feeling rather stupid for not knowing this one. Pilgrim’s Progress pre-dates this era, or I’d say that one. Total guess here: Vanity Fair?
11. d) Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper”
12. Manuela Run—only because that's the one Toto song in the list that I don't recognize.
13. Whatever the answer, how cool that you were present! Wish I could look up the years they came out; it would probably help. I'm calling it Pink Floyd's The Wall.
14. THIS one I know. Several reasons, actually. My personal favorites: Circulars can prevent stitches from getting stretched out if you leave the work for a spell. You can knit projects in the round. Many circular sets have interchangeable needles, which is extremely convenient. And they're flexible so you aren't knocking a small child off the couch with a long bamboo stick.
15. c) Martha
16. Tough one—I could argue several. (Can we get a point if we get one right, or is it an all or nothing Q? :D) But I'll go with c) The Weather Channel and d) The Food Network. (I’m THIS CLOSE to saying the Turner Classic movies station, but you’re a mom of a lot of little kids—I can see you flipping on the weather station every morning to check what the school day forecast is like).
17. I have a vague memory of you liking d) Denzel, so I'm going with him.
18. Shoot—I think I can narrow this down to two, but of those, I don't know. I'll go with d) Slaughterhouse Five
19. b) Mushroom Jack Chicken Fajitas, hold the bell peppers. Sounds yummy. I may have to try it.
20. Showing my cultural illiteracy again . . . I'm not familiar enough with these to know. (I will not cheat . . . I will not cheat . . .) So I'll go with d) Sally in When Harry Met Sally. From the snippets of that one I’ve seen, Sally strikes me as delightfully quirky.

Now I'll try to be patient until we hear back about Little Perkins #8 and the quiz.

Very fun quiz! Is there a booby prize for the new kid on the block? I could not possibly guess at more than 3 or 4. (Although I got a scholarship for guessing on the ACT, so stranger things have happened!)

Any word yet on Luisa's baby?
Blessings to you --

Are you kidding me? I feel like an idiot.

Oh, wait. I always feel like an idiot when I read your blog. But a PACKAGE. Now that is worth making myself *look* like an idiot. I love a good package.

Here are my (mostly) guesses:

1. It's like the Amish quilt thing. You add in a mistake to maintain your humility.

2. Al Gore.

3. Backyardigans.

4. Fernando

5. a. Ender's Game

6. Down by the school yard. With Julio.

7. TetraMin

8. Styrofoam.

9. son/heir.

10. is it the one you started a new blog about?

11. b

12. please say it's "Africa." This would make me so happy.

13. d.

14. How else would one knit in the round?

15. a. Eleanor

16. a. Sports NY, and f. VH-1

17. a. Redford

18. c.

19. c.

20. d.

Now, please come back and tell us all that you and the baby are doing well.

Changed my mind --
I'm going to guess at a few of these anyway:

1. To sound Jamaican :)
Clearly for amusement.
2. Al Gore (for green living and An Inconvenient Truth) -- but did you see the article comparing his personal residence to Bush's?! Hmm....
3. Masterpiece Theater
4. Your mom's maiden name
5. Ender's Game is my hubby's favorite
6. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you. (Last I looked he was doing celebrity endorsements in bad t.v. commercials)
7. Fish Sticks
8. Tough one, that. Have to say styrofoam, for environmental reasons and because it clings to everything and makes that horrible finernails-on-the-chalkboard sound when it rubs against itself.
9. The Son and the Heir
10. Wuthering Heights
11. Yodeler's Medley :)
Oh, it's multiple choice. I'll take d) for 100.
12. I really want to guess d) here too.
13) Maybe b)
14) Hats, socks...well, in your case maybe booties.
15) Jude
16) d) and c)
17) Well, my choice would be Dennis Quaid, so I'll choose c)
18) I'm having good luck with d)
19) Never ever been to Chili's (not one to frequent chain restaurants), but I'm guessing b) because of the green peppers.
20) That one has to be d) Sally

On 10/5/08 , Anonymous said...

First of all, Congratulations.

Sirdar and I went through this together and the only one we (read he), knew for sure is #11 is 'd'.

These quizzes always make me feel like such a crappy friend for not knowing you better. I'll do my best.
1. I have no earthly idea, although I've wondered.

2. Al Gore

3. Firefly?

4. William? (just a shot in the dark)--why couldn't Ang have posted her answers publicly so I could at least cheat on that one!

5. You told me to buy Ender's Game, but I'm gonna bet Treason is your fave.

6. "Joltin' Joe has left and gone away", although he hadn't gone anywhere really.

7. Tetra? That was the fish food I bought anyway.

8. Styrofoam. I HATE it too.

9. son and heir

10. no idea.

11. "Don't Fear the Reaper"

12. I hope it's "Africa"!

13. Rattle and Hum?

14. To knit in the round!

15. Martha

16. Noggin and Sports NY

17. Robert Redford

18. I'm guessing Slaughterhouse Five, but I am not positive.

19. Mushroom Jack Chicken Fajitas

20. Sally.
